Full Qualification

This qualification is a Nationally Recognised Training program and reflects the role of entry-level personal care workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualized plan to provide person-centered support and care to people who may require support due to aging, disability, or some other reason.

This qualification prepares you to work using discretion and judgment in relation to individual support, as well as taking responsibility for your own outputs. You will gain a range of factual, technical, and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centered support

A blended mode of practical training with clients, combined with digital knowledge, theory, and assessments studied over 52 weeks

The Diploma of Counselling provides students with a comprehensive week by week program that includes extensive knowledge and theory work, workshop sessions and practical client experience within a real-life complex needs clinic context.

This course is innovative and unique in that it provides students with practical client experience that is ongoing throughout the course and allows students to apply the theoretical components of studies whilst they study.

While there are no training package work placement requirements at the level of the qualification the unit CHCMHS004 (‘Work collaboratively with the care network and other services’) requires the learner to demonstrate competencies as a part of 80 hours work in industry – included in the 52 week duration.

How much contact time does the course entail?

  • 52 weeks total – including 10 weeks non-contact time during SA school holiday term breaks.
  • One contact day per week at Bower Place Complex Needs Clinic – Level 2 – 55 Gawler Place Adelaide. 9am-5pm.
  • Contact days within the Bower Place Complex Needs Clinic are scheduled throughout the duration of the course.
  • The course duration includes the required 80 hours work in industry to demonstrate competencies.
